Sketches continued ...

Most of the time it’s best to just give your general idea to the artist and let their imagination and creativity pour out; more often than not it’s their best work. However, there are times when you have a really specific idea of what you want an illustration to look like and that is when an art background would come in really handy. But if art is not your strength you need to give as much information as you can to the artist so they understand exactly what you are looking for. Here are a few such cases.
 
Some illustrations are very difficult to explain because there is so much action in them, so it’s actually easier to try and draw them out. While other ideas, like the sunset illustration at the bottom of this page, are very easy to sketch and send on. The Writing Process The “Rescue illustration” from The Forbidden Volcano. My sketch and then Randy’s sketch, line art, and inking. I had a very specific idea of the angle I wanted the next illustration drawn, as well as the colors and landscape. So in order to help Randy picture what was in my head I searched the internet to find pictures that would be helpful when illustrating and coloring this scene. I also sketched out an idea (left).
